What these are for
Pre-trip and post-trip inspection labels give drivers a fixed checklist at the vehicle for the daily walk-around, so the same items get checked the same way on every shift.
The rule behind it
Driver vehicle inspection is covered by 49 CFR §396.11 (driver vehicle inspection report) and §396.13 (driver inspection before operating). The rules require the driver to be satisfied the vehicle is in safe operating condition and, where defects are found, that they are reported and repaired.
Ideal For
- Fleet safety managers standardizing the daily walk-around across drivers
- CDL driver training programs teaching a consistent inspection order
- Owner-operators who want the checklist on the vehicle instead of in a binder
- Terminal yards keeping pre-trip and post-trip routines consistent between shifts
Applying them
Clean and dry the surface first — the permanent adhesive bonds to painted metal, glass, and smooth plastic, but not through wax, oil, or road film. Apply at room temperature and press firmly from the center outward.
FAQ
What is a pre-trip / post-trip inspection label for?
It puts the daily walk-around checklist on the vehicle itself, so drivers run the same items in the same order every shift instead of working from memory.
Does this replace my DVIR paperwork?
No. 49 CFR §396.11 governs the driver vehicle inspection report and its record-keeping. This label is a checklist aid at the vehicle — it does not replace the report or its retention.
Which regulation covers driver inspections?
49 CFR §396.13 requires the driver to be satisfied the vehicle is in safe operating condition before driving; §396.11 covers the inspection report and defect reporting.
Where should it be mounted?
Somewhere the driver passes during the walk-around — inside the door jamb, on the sleeper bulkhead, or inside a toolbox lid. Apply to a clean, dry, smooth surface.
Will it survive being in a truck cab or outdoors?
Yes — 4.3 mil weatherproof vinyl with UV-resistant ink and permanent adhesive, rated for outdoor use.
Can I get a custom checklist for my equipment?
Custom layouts and wording are available on request — send us the checklist items you want and the quantity you need.
How many should I order?
Most fleets order one per power unit plus spares for new equipment. Packs are available in 25, 50, and 100.
Note on compliance: These decals are visual indicators only. Compliance requires a passed inspection by a qualified inspector and proper record retention under the applicable rule.
